Delete a Resource Assignment

If you assign work on a project to a resource and later want to remove that assignment, you can do that in the Resource View grid. You can also delete multiple assignments under the same parent element in the work breakdown structure (WBS).

You can also delete resource assignments in the Project View grid.

To delete a resource's work assignment, complete the following steps:

1. In the Resource Management workspace, click to go to the Resource View.
2. If necessary, use a search to display, in the grid, the resource for whom you want to remove an assignment.
3. Do one of the following:
   • If you are deleting a single assignment, expand the WBS until the assignment is visible.
   • If you are deleting all assignments under a parent WBS element, expand the WBS until the parent element is visible.
4. Do one of the following:
   • If you are deleting a single assignment, hover over that WBS row and click at the end of the row.
   • If you are deleting all assignments under a parent WBS element, hover over the parent WBS row and click at the end of the row.
5. Click Delete.
   Result:

   • If you are deleting a single assignment:
     • If the assignment row does not have associated job-to-date (JTD) hours, a message asks you to confirm the deletion. Click Delete.
     • If the assignment row has both planned hours and JTD hours, a message notifies you that you cannot delete the assignment but you can delete any past and future planned hours for the assignment. To delete the planned hours, click Delete.
     • If the assignment row has associated job-to-date (JTD) hours but no planned hours, a message notifies you that you cannot delete the assignment.
   • If you are deleting all assignments under a parent WBS element:
     • If none of the assignment rows has associated job-to-date (JTD) hours, a message asks you to confirm the deletions. Click Delete.
     • If any of the assignment rows have both planned hours and JTD hours, a message notifies you that you cannot delete the assignments with JTD hours but you can delete any past and future planned hours for those assignments. Assignment rows that do not have JTD hours will be deleted also. To delete the planned hours and any assignments with no JTD hours, click Delete.
     • If all of the assignment rows have associated job-to-date (JTD) hours but none of them has planned hours, a message notifies you that you cannot delete the assignments.
