Run a Forensic Analysis
Use these steps to perform a forensic analysis.
You must have a minimum of two projects imported into Acumen.
To run a forensic analysis, complete the following steps:
- On the Forensics tab, click Create Analysis to start the Forensic Analysis wizard.
- On the first page of the wizard, select the project that you want to use for a comparison as base project and click Next.
- Select the project(s) that you want to compare against the base project. and click Next.
-
If you have selected a project that contains subprojects, a mapping screen displays. You can do one of two things:
- Click
Add Mapping
and map the subprojects so that the analysis is performed on the correct projects. For example, you may have activity A1 in Project 1 and activity A1 in Project 2. Because both activities in different projects have the same ID, mapping the projects tells Acumen which activity to look at.
The drop-down lists display the projects IDs. If you hover over each ID, the project description displays as a tooltip.
- If you are certain that you have unique activity IDs across all subprojects, you can select Ignore Subproject Structure (Compare using Activity IDs) . Acumen will perform the analysis using the activity IDs. If there are duplicate activity IDs and you select this option, Acumen uses the first activity that it finds that matches the ID and your forensic data may be incorrect if it uses the wrong activity for the analysis
- Click
Add Mapping
and map the subprojects so that the analysis is performed on the correct projects. For example, you may have activity A1 in Project 1 and activity A1 in Project 2. Because both activities in different projects have the same ID, mapping the projects tells Acumen which activity to look at.
- Select the fields that you want to compare and click Finish. The wizard automatically selects the fields that you have selected on the Fields tab in the Compare in Forensics column however you can unselect them or select additional fields if needed.
The Forensics tab displays the differences in the menu bar groups. The numbers in parenthesis indicate the number of differences for that field. Click on a field to view details of the differences. If needed, you can use the SmartGantt filter to filter the results and you can publish (export) the results.
