Define a New Variable Field

When defining a metric, if a field to be used in a metric definition is unknown, then a variable field can be created. When an analysis is run, the user is prompted for the actual field to be assigned.

To define a new variable field, complete the following steps:

1. Select the Metrics tab.
2. Select the Variables view.
3. In the Variables menu group, click New Field Variable. Field Variable x is added to the Variables list.
4. In the Name field, enter a name for the field variable.
5. (Optional) In the Field field, select a field from the drop-down list. If no field is specified, then you are prompted for it during an analysis. Upon entering the field (at run-time), the variable will store and use this field unless you alter it at a later time.
