Checklist: Planning Quick Start

If you are new to Planning, review the process that you use to create a new project plan.

Step Description
1 Configure the plan settings in Configuration > Planning.

Create a new plan in Project Planning, using one of the following methods:

  • From scratch
  • Copy an existing plan
  • Based on an existing project record
  • Based on multiple existing project records
  • Based on an existing opportunity record
  • From a top-down plan
  • Import a project from MS Project
3 Enter information on the General and Rates tabs of Project Planning.
4 Configure the calendar format (optional) on the Accordion Calendar Format dialog box.
5 Enter the plan work breakdown structure.
6 Assign resources, forecast hours, and change generic resources to named resources wherever possible, in Resource Management.
7 Enter planned Expenses, assign Vendors to expenses, and forecast expense amounts (optional).
8 Enter planned Consultants, assign Vendors to consultant expenses, and forecast consultant amounts (optional).
9 Enter planned Units and forecast unit amounts.
10 Review billing, compensation, cost, revenue, and multiplier information on the Summary tab.
11 Review the plan's estimated performance on the Cost Analysis tab of Project Planning and/or the Billing Analysis tab of Project Planning.
12 Save the plan (and baseline).
13 Map the plan. If you want to report actuals, you must map the WBS elements of the plan to the corresponding records in the Vision Info Center.
