The PCA and PM Compass

One of the jobs of a PCA is to confirm that the work plan described in the change request can be accomplished and will not be quickly rejected. For example, if the CAM is requesting a work plan that shows the company will have to hire 50 people one month and then lay them all off the next month, the PCA should catch this error before it goes to the PM and Resource Manager for approval. To perform this analysis, the PCA needs to see the data time phased.

Another duty of the PCA is to make sure the CAM is selecting the correct resource codes. Large organizations are always retiring old and creating new charge codes to help ensure the skill pools match the actual costs which improves estimates and budgeting. If a particular code has been retired (or is in the process of being retired), the CAM should not use that code. The PCA will need to swap out the old code for the new and make sure the costs are updated correctly.
