Event Relay Feature

An event can be configured to activate a relay signal on the shop floor terminal when the event posts. When the event activates the relay, the terminal gives an output signal such as a light going off or a door opening.

You can configure the number of seconds that the output signal will last. For example, when an employee scans their badge, the terminal may cause a door to open for 10 seconds.

You can also configure whether the relay should activate for a successful event posting or an error. If the event is staged, you can configure the relay for the Start or Stop stage of the event.

This feature is only supported on 9540 and 9520 terminals. You will need to know how many relays are on the terminal you are using and which relays are already in use. Consult your terminal’s operation manual for information.

Note: An event relay is different from a terminal relay schedule, which activates the terminal’s relay according to a schedule, not according to any event postings or actions by a user. The event relay causes the terminal to activate a relay when a particular event is posted. The event relay and relay schedule should use different Relay Numbers on the terminal.

This feature requires the following configuration:

1. Configure the Event's Relay Settings

2. Configure the Terminal Profile Settings for Event Relay

Configure the Event's Relay Settings

  1. Click Main Menu > Configuration > Event > Events.

  2. Select the event that you want to activate a relay.

  3. Click the Relay tab.

  4. Click Add.

  5. If the event is staged, select whether the Start or Stop stage of the event will activate the relay. Otherwise, Event Stage will be set to No Stage.

  6. Response Indicator determines whether a successful event posting (Success) or an Error will activate the relay.

  7. Select the Relay Number (1 or 2) for the relay on the terminal that will be activated.

  8. Enter the Duration (0.1 to 10 seconds) for how long the relay will activate.

  9. If you want to add more than one Event Relay record, click Save and Add to save your settings and keep the Add Event Relay window open. Or click Save to save your Event Relay record and return to the main form.

Configure the Terminal Profile Settings for Event Relay

You must also define several Terminal Profile Settings if you want a terminal to activate its relay in response to the configured event: EVENT_RELAY, EVENT_RELAY_INTERVAL_OFFLINE, and EVENT_RELAY_NUM_OFFLINE.

To add these Terminal Profile Settings:

  1. Click Main Menu > Configuration > Terminal > Terminal Profile.

  2. Select the terminal profile for the terminals that will use event relays.

  3. On the Terminal Profile Setting tab, click Add.

  4. In the Setting Type field, select EVENT_RELAY.

  5. In the Setting Value field, select Enabled.

  6. Click Save and Add.

  7. In the Setting Type field, select EVENT_RELAY_INTERVAL_OFFLINE.

  8. In the Setting Value field, enter the length of time the relay will be activated when the user posts an offline transaction.

  9. Click Save and Add.

  10. In the Setting Type field, select EVENT_RELAY_NUM_OFFLINE.

  11. In the Setting Value field, select Relay 1 or Relay 2. This setting specifies which relay will be activated when the user posts an offline transaction.

Note: In offline mode, terminal relays are not activated by specific events. Instead, the EVENT_RELAY_INTERVAL_OFFLINE and EVENT_RELAY_NUM_OFFLINE Terminal Profile Settings activate a relay each time the user posts an offline transaction.

  12. Click Save.
