Create the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the Plan
You create the plan's Work Breakdown Structure in Project Planning.
To create the WBS, complete the following steps:
- From the Vision Navigation menu, click .
- Open a plan record or create a new plan record.
- Set plan levels on the Default WBS Mapping dialog box.
- On the General tab, of the Project Planning form, enter the plan name and number and select options.
- On the Rates tab, select the plan's Budget Type and specify billing rate methods and tables and/or cost rate methods and tables for labor and expenses.
- Click the Labor tab.
-
To specify a new element of the WBS, click
New Row and enter the element's name in the
Description field.
You can specify a project, phase, task, or other plan element.
When you insert, indent, or outdent tasks on the Labor grid, the WBS Level column reflects the settings on the Default WBS Mapping dialog box.
To copy and paste an existing row, right-click the small arrow to the left of the row and then use the Copy and Paste options on the shortcut menu.
- Repeat step 7 as many times as necessary to supply all the elements of your work breakdown structure.
-
Use
Indent and
Outdent to move WBS elements in the hierarchy.
Option Description Indent Click Indent to move the current WBS element to a lower level of the WBS hierarchy. This makes the element a child of the element immediately preceding it on the grid. Data from all child elements summarize to the parent element. Outdent Click Outdent to promote the current WBS element to a higher level in the WBS hierarchy. For example, highlight a task and then click Outdent to promote the task to the phase level. You can also make corresponding changes to the Description, WBS Level, Phase, or Task fields. -
Optional. If you do not need a row, select it and click
Delete.
When you delete a row, you also delete all its indented rows. For example, if you delete a phase, you automatically delete any tasks summarizing to it.
- Click Save.
