Example of an Overall Revenue Upset Limit

This example demonstrates how the Overall Revenue Upset Limits feature works.

Project ABC has three tasks: Task 1, Task 2, and Task 3.

On the Budget & Revenue tab of the Project Info Center at the project level:

  • Select the Overall Revenue check box, and select Upset Limits in the field beside the check box.

  • In the Include in Limit section, select the Compensation check box to specify the project's compensation amount as the revenue maximum that is not to be exceeded when you run Revenue Generation.

  • In the To Adjust section, select Task 3 as the adjustment task to which any revenue amount that exceeds the compensation amount is posted.

When you run Revenue Generation for Project ABC, the following occur:

  • Vision calculates the job-to-date (JTD) revenue as $5,000 for Task 1 and $7,000 for Task 2, which makes the total revenue $12,000.

  • The project's total compensation that is entered on the Budget & Revenue tab of the Project Info Center is $10,000.

This means that the total revenue of $12,000 is $2,000 more than what is specified as the upset limit for the project.

  • Vision posts -$2,000 to Task 3 so that the revenue does not exceed the upset limit of $10,000.
