Search a Previewed Report with an Advanced Search

Vision enables you to search reports displayed in the Preview window based on the fields and search values you specify. You can then view the search results on the computer, print them, or export them to Microsoft Excel.

The advanced search feature is not available if you use SQL Server Express or SQL Server Workgroup.

To do an advanced search of a previewed report, complete the following steps:

  1. Click on the Preview window toolbar to open the search pane at the bottom of the Preview window.

The search pane displays a list of the fields that you can select as search targets and include in the search output.

  2. Select Display for the first field that you want to include in the search output. If you want to search the report based on the values in a field but do not want that field to appear in the search results, leave Display cleared and continue with step 4.

If the report uses subreports, the fields in the subreports are not available as search criteria or search output.

  3. You can change the name of the field in Name if you want it to have a different name in the search results.
  4. If you want to search the report based on the values in this field, select the Filter check box. If you want to include the field in the search results but do not want to search based on its values, do not select Filter.
  5. If you selected Filter, select an Operator and enter the value of the field for which you want to search in Value. For date fields, you can enter the date or click and select the date. You cannot use wildcard characters in the search value.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each field that you want to include in the search output.
  7. Click Search on the grid menu. The Results tab displays the search results. The number of result rows displays at the top of the grid.
  8. To close the search pane, click on the Preview window toolbar.
