Custom Proposals Graphics and Adobe InDesign Merge Templates

You can add graphics to a custom proposal that uses an Adobe InDesign merge template.

Step Description Where to Perform This
1 Link the actual graphics file to an Info Center record. In the Files grid on the Files tab in an Info Center.

On the Files grid toolbar, click Insert File (not Insert URL). You must also select the check box in the Graphic column.

Examples of a file path to use with Insert File:

  • F:\Marketing\Graphics
  • \\marketingserver\marketing\graphics

You cannot insert graphic files from a URL. Http and https locations are not supported.

2 Create a merge template for a section of a custom proposal using Adobe InDesign. In Configuration > General > Merge Templates.

Use the Proposal Graphic merge code as a placeholder for graphic files. This merge code inserts an empty graphics frame into the merge template. You can insert one or more graphic merge codes.

3 Assign an InDesign merge template that contains graphics merge codes to a section of a custom proposal. In Proposals > Custom Proposals.

Click Sections on the Custom Proposals form toolbar. In the grid on the Configure Sections dialog box, select the merge template in the Merge Templates field.

4 Insert the graphics files into the custom proposal section (merge template). In Proposals > Custom Proposals.

Click the tab for the section. On the grid toolbar on the tab, click Graphics.

5 Generate the custom proposal (merged document) that displays the graphic. In Proposals > Custom Proposals.

On the toolbar of the Custom Proposals form, click Merge Proposal.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you are having trouble with graphics in InDesign, try the following:

  • Make sure the end code for the graphic is not in overset and it is visible in the text frame.
  • Add more space between the border of the graphic frame and the text frame in which it is located.
  • Remove and re-add the graphic.
