Specify a name for the generic resource, its organization, labor category, labor code, supervisor, status, and skills.

Enter a unique alphanumeric code for the generic resource.

Enter a unique alphanumeric name for the generic resource.

Organization
|
Enter or select the organization for which the generic resource works. Organizations are discrete business units in your company. You can set up organizations by region, function, responsibility, and so on.

Labor Category
|
Use this drop-down list to select a labor category for the generic resource, such as Principal, Project Manager, Architect, and so on.
You can change the labor category if the generic resource is not assigned to any project plans.

Labor Code
|
Enter or select the labor code associated with the generic resource.
You can only select a single labor code mask. Available values are labor code masks from labor code billing rate tables that are marked as available for use in planning.
- The code is shown in the field when a selection is made.
- This is conditionally shown.
- The labor code mask may only be edited if the generic resource is not assigned to any project plans.
- Administrators must select labor code combinations that are consistent with the labor code billing rate tables that have been established for use in Planning. Therefore, only labor code masks set up in rate tables are available.

Supervisor
|
Enter or select the name of the generic resource's supervisor.
When you enter an employee name in this field, Vision creates a hyperlink between the employee name and the corresponding Employee Info Center record. You can then click the name in this field to open the Employee Info Center record in the current browser window. Or, right-click the name and then click
Open in New Window on the shortcut menu to open the Employee Info Center record in a new browser window.

Status
|
Use this drop-down list to select a status of
Active or
Inactive. You cannot assign an inactive generic resource to a project plan.

Skills Grid
Use this grid to enter skill information for the generic resource.

Click the drop-down arrow on a grid header to complete any of the following actions:
- To print grid data, click
Print. On the Print Preview form, click
to send the grid data to your default printer.
- To export grid data to an Excel spreadsheet, click
Export to Excel. When Microsoft Excel opens, use its features to modify, print, or email the grid data, or to save the spreadsheet file locally.
- To turn on grouping for a grid, click
Enable Grouping. When a field displays with the instruction: "Drag a column header here to group by that column," drag and drop column headers into the field, in the sequence that you want them to display.
Not all options are available on all grids.

Insert
|
Click this option to insert skill information on the Skills grid.

Delete
|
Click this option to delete skill information from the Skills grid.
|
Skill
|
Click in this field and use the drop-down list to associate a skill, such as Computer Programmer or Project Manager, with the generic resource. You define skill options using the Employee Skill/Discipline Code Table in Code Table Configuration.

Level
|
Click in this field and use the drop-down list to select a skill level for the employee, such as 1-2 years. You define skill level options using the Employee Skill/Discipline Level Code Table in Code Table Configuration.

Primary
|
Select this option if the skill is the generic resource's primary skill.
