Example - Assign Multiple Generic Resources
You can assign multiple generic resources to a plan as part of creating a "what-if" scenario.
For a task in the plan, you estimate needing one senior architect and three architects, for approximately two months' of work. You want to get a quick cost estimate for this proposed resource assignment.
To assign multiple generic resource categories to a single task, complete the following steps:
- From the Vision Navigation menu, click Planning > Project Planning.
- Open the plan to which you want to assign generic resources.
-
On the Rates tab, select these options:
- Budget Table: Cost and Billing
- Cost Rate-Rate Method: From Labor Code Table
- Cost Rate-Rate Table: Staff Cost Rates
- Generic Table: Category Standards
- Click the Labor tab and click the task to which you are assigning the architects.
- Click Search.
- Click the Generic Resource tab on the Resource Management dialog box. Vision lists the generic resources for the Category Standards resource category you selected on the General tab.
- Click Architect.
- Press the CTRL key and click Senior Architect.
- Click Select. Vision lists the Senior Architect and Architect categories on the Labor Planning grid, just beneath the task to which they are assigned.
- Enter the estimated labor hours in the Planned Hrs field in the Accordion Calendar grid at the right of the screen. This is the estimate of how many hours the resource will work to complete this element. Once these hours are entered, Vision can calculate the cost estimates.
