Inventory Transactions Overview
Use Inventory Transactions to control inventory items. The four transaction groups make it possible for the system administrator to control the access to each transaction group.
- Inventory Issues
- Quantity Adjustments
- Location Moves
- Cost Adjustments
Relation to the Vision Transaction Center
Vision's Transaction Center does not create or keep inventory transaction records. From the Transaction Center, you can print a posting log for any unit and journal entry transactions that were created by these procedures:
-
Posting an inventory issue transaction creates a unit transaction posting log in the Transaction Center.
-
Posting a cost or quantity adjustment transaction creates a journal entry transaction posting log in the Transaction Center, if the Skip GL option is cleared.
No "Add item on-the-fly" in Inventory Transactions
In Purchasing and in Item Requests, if the Automatic Add/Items option is selected on the General tab of Configuration > Purchasing & Inventory > Company Settings, you can add a new item in the New Item dialog box. It is not necessary to use Configuration > Purchasing & Inventory > Items Master. In Item Requests, this can include inventory items.
This is informally known as adding an item "on the fly."
Some groups of inventory transactions have an effect on the total quantity and cost of your firm's inventory assets. In the Inventory Transactions screens, you can not add an item on the fly. You must click in a screen's Item field and select from the Items Lookup list, which displays inventory items only.
Transaction Numbers
The same procedure is used to give a transaction number to all inventory transactions.
Vision gives each new inventory transaction the number that displays in the Next Number/Inventory Transaction field on the Inventory tab of Configuration > Purchasing & Inventory > Company Settings.
- Screens
In addition to using the Inventory Issues form to fulfill item requests, you use forms to specify adjustments to item quantities and costs, and changes in item location.
