Create a Dependency Using the Set FS Relationship Option
After tasks are created in a project, you can create a finish to start relationship between tasks or groups of tasks.
To use the Set FS Relationship option to create a dependency, complete the following steps:
- From the Vision Navigation menu, click Planning > Project Planning and click the Schedule tab.
-
On the interactive Gantt chart, select the tasks bars for which you want to create a relationship.
Use the CTRL or SHIFT keys while selecting the tasks to choose more than one. The first item selected will be the predecessor to all subsequent tasks selected.
The same concept applies if you select a group of tasks (black bracket on Gantt chart), but the dependencies are not set on the group level, rather, they are set on each individual task within the group. The first item that you select becomes the predecessor(s) to all subsequent items selected.
The predecessor task changes to blue while you create the dependency. This is helpful for keeping track of the predecessor task. All tasks that are selected will also have a gray border that displays around their perimeter.
-
Right-click and select
Set FS Relationship.
An arrow from the predecessor to the successor displays between the tasks and a
Finish to Start relationship is applied. In this relationship, the successor task cannot begin until the predecessor is complete.
After you finish establishing the dependent relationships, the tasks return to green.
