By default, Vision uses the start date that you select for the plan as both the start and end date for each element in the WBS. When you schedule the plan, you enter new dates for each element at the lowest level of the WBS. Vision automatically calculates dates for elements at higher levels.
Prerequisite: Before you schedule the plan, check that the dates specified for this plan's calendar in Planning Configuration are appropriate. You cannot, for example, specify an end date for a task that is later than any date specified in the plan's calendar.
To schedule the plan, complete the following steps:
-
From the Vision Navigation menu, click
.
-
On the Project Planning form, open a plan record.
-
Click the Labor tab.
-
In the
Start field on the lowest level of the WBS, specify the date on which work for the current WBS element should start.
By default, the start date for the first element in the WBS is set to the plan's start date. You cannot enter a date that is earlier than the first date in the plan's calendar.
-
In the
End field, specify the date on which work for the current WBS element should end.
This date must be later than the start date. Also, you cannot enter a date that is later than the last date in the plan's calendar.
-
Repeat steps 4 and 5 for all WBS elements to be scheduled.
-
Click
Save.
Vision calculates dates for elements at higher WBS levels. The start date of a parent element is the same as the earliest start date of all the elements rolling up to it. The end date of a parent element is the same as the latest end date of all the elements rolling up to it. However, the end date of the plan itself is not driven by the end dates of any WBS elements.
If you change any dates, Vision recalculates all affected fields. If you assign resources and enter planned hours for an element, Vision recalculates dates accordingly.
