Use a Read-Only Alternate Reporting Database for Resource Planning and Project Reports

You can run Resource Planning and Project reports that use a Planning budget source (specified in the report's options) against a read-only, alternate (replica) reporting database.

Having an alternate reporting database for processing only reports reduces the load on your main Vantagepoint database.

You must use an alternate Planning temporary database with the alternate reporting database if you want the Resource Planning and Project reports that use a Planning budget source to be processed through the alternate reporting database. If you use an alternate reporting database, but you don't set up a Planning temporary database, the reports will be processed through the main Vantagepoint database.

To use a read-only alternate reporting database for these Resource Planning and Project reports:

  1. Create an alternate Planning temporary database on the server where your alternate reporting database is located.
    • This is a writeable database for temporary data storage for the Resource Planning and Project reports that use a Planning budget source.
    • You must manually create the database.
    • The database must also have a schema created with the same name as either the windows identity used by the AppPool on the webserver if you use Windows Authentication ("DOMAIN\USER") or a SQL Server login.
  2. Open the Weblink utility.
  3. On the Weblink form, open the Report Server tab.
  4. If you don't already have the Use Alternate Database for Reporting check box selected, select it, and enter the information for the alternate report database in the fields below the check box.
  5. Select the Alternate Planning Temp Database check box.
  6. Complete the fields for the Planning temporary database below the check box.
    • The Server Name field prefills with the server name that you entered above for the alternate report database, which you can't change. The two databases must reside on the same server.
    • In the Database Name field, enter the name of the Planning temporary database that you created in step 1 above.
  7. Click Save.
