The State Withholding form shown above is used to calculate personal state income tax withholding, in computing the amount of taxes to be withheld from your wages by your employer, and in accurately reflecting your state tax-withholding obligation.
By completing this form, you can adjust the amount of tax withheld to meet your tax liability. You should complete the State Withholding form when you claim a different marital (filing) status, a different number of regular allowances, or a different additional dollar amount to be withheld for state personal income tax withholding.
This non-editable field displays your home address (or mailing address if your home and mailing addresses are the same).
The system will look in ESS Company Settings in Costpoint to find out whether the Allow Withholding State Changes checkbox is selected. If it is, the Withholding State field will contain a drop-down menu from which you can select the state that applies. (If the checkbox is not selected, a non-editable field will display.)
If you make a new selection in the Withholding State field, the screen will refresh and repopulate based on the state selected.
If a website is available, this field will display the word "Website." This is a hyperlink. Select it to see state withholding information.
Use the Filing Status drop-down box to select the personal status that applies to you. Changing your selection in the Filing Status field will refresh the page so that the exemptions/dependents/credits options set up in Costpoint's ESS State Tax Settings screen will be reflected for your chosen filing status.
Enter the total number of allowances that you wish to claim. You cannot enter a value less than "0" or greater than the maximum number of allowances for each state. The more allowances you claim on the State Withholding form, the less income tax your employer will withhold.
Enter the total number of dependents that you wish to claim. You cannot enter a value less than "0" or greater than the maximum number of dependents allowed for each state.
Enter the total number of credits that you wish to claim. You cannot enter a value less than zero or greater than the maximum number of credits allowed for each state.
Enter any additional withholding amount here. Enter the specific dollar amount that you authorize the employer to withhold, in addition to the tax withheld based on your filing status and number of allowances. If you enter an amount, the system will display a message asking you to confirm the amount that you just entered.
