Custom Text

You can use this application to customize the system's text. It takes data from both the database and ASCII files found on the server (based on a user's filter) and presents the data to you, so you can provide custom overrides to system default text.

When do I use the Custom Text screen?

The custom text application is a maintenance application.  You can use it to add, edit, and delete custom text overrides to the system default text. You can perform the following functions in the application:

Locale

Use this drop-down list to select the applicable country and the language of that country.  It displays the languages that have been configured for your company.

Module

From the Module drop-down list, select the module, either Time, Expense, or ESS, that contains the screen or application where you want to add or edit custom text.. Options include the following:

Screen/Application

From the Screen/Application drop-down list, select the screen or application (Workflow, for example) where you want to add or edit custom text.

Page

From the Page drop-down list, select the page where you want to add or edit custom text.  

Edit Text

Select the Edit Text link to launch the Edit Text dialog, where you can override the custom text.

Reset Text

Select the Reset Text link to reset the system to the default text.

Table Window

Checkbox

To select a row for Edit or Reset, select the checkbox to the left of the row.

If the checkbox in the header of the table is selected, all records in the table will be selected (checked).  If you change the checkbox in the header from checked to unchecked, all checkboxes will be unchecked.

Text Type

This field displays the type of message bundle (i.e., "Top Text," "Bottom Text," "Error," etc.).  

Label Code

This field displays the identifying number assigned to the message bundle (i.e., "T000423," "E000023," etc.).  

Usage Hint

This field provides a hint describing the message bundle (i.e., "Top Instructions Text," "Street Address Error," etc.).  

Default Text

This field displays the default text (ASCII files), before you have entered any overrides (e.g., "Insert Top Text Here," "Street Address is required," etc.).

Override Text

If you have edited custom text in the Edit Text screen, the edited text will display here.  

Edit Text

Select the Edit Text link to launch the Edit Text dialog, where you can edit your custom text.

Edit Text

Enter new text here.

Suppress Default Text

If you select the Suppress Default Text check box, the default text will be suppressed, and "<Suppressed>" will display in the Override Text field (on the main screen).  

If you do not select this checkbox, the Override Text field will be blank.

OK

If you select this pushbutton, all edits will be saved, and you will return to the main page of the Custom Text screen.

Cancel

If you select this pushbutton, edits will not be saved.  You will return to the main page of the Custom Text screen.

Formatting Options

Select this pushbutton to launch the Formatting Options dialog.

You can customize your text edits by using the formatting options displayed here.

Close

Select this pushbutton to return to the Edit Text dialog screen.

Create File(s)

Your custom text will be saved as a message bundle.

Create Files(s)

When you have finished customizing the text messages, click Create File(s) to generate the message bundle files. In the Create File(s) dialog, review the selected languages. If you don’t want to generate a message bundle for any of the selected languages, clear the check box next to that language.
