Add External Training Using New CSV File
Use this screen to upload external training information in bulk.
Note: To ensure that you are using the correct data format and can successfully upload external training information using this tool, use the sample CSV file as a template. A link to the sample file is provided on the Import External Training screen.
To add external training by creating and uploading a new CSV file:

Use a spreadsheet application, such as Microsoft Excel® to create a CSV file. The file must contain the following headings in the top row:
Field Description employee If you are a manager and are importing your own external training, leave this column blank. Or, enter your direct report’s email address if importing for your employees. If you are an Administrator and are importing external training for other users, enter the employee’s email address in this column. title Enter the name of the external training in this column. type Enter the type or medium used to deliver the external training in this column. start_date Using the m/d/yyy format, enter the date when the external date was scheduled to start in this column. completion_date Using the m/d/yyyy format, enter the date when the external training was completed in this column. description Add a brief description of the external training in this column. url Enter the URL of the institution that offered the external training in this column. organization Enter the name of the educational or professional organization that offered the external training in this column. address Enter the address of the educational or professional organization that offered the external training in this column. cost Enter the tuition fee or cost amount of the external training in this column. education unit This replaces and consolidates Credit and CEUs into a single column. Use this column to enter the number of units earned upon completion of the external training. You can upload multiple educational units per external training row by using the pipe symbol (|) to separate the education unit type, category, and value and then by using a semicolon (;) to separate the data points. For example: CEUs|General|100;CEUs|Compliance|10.
grade Enter the grade received for the external training in this column. degree_type : If a degree is awarded upon completion of the external training, enter the type of degree in this column. comments Enter notes or comments about the external training in this column. - Save the file as a CSV file type in your computer where it can be retrieved.
- Navigate to the Learning > External Learning screen, then click Import External Training.
- On the Import External Training screen, click Browse to find and select the CSV file you had just created.
- Select the Update External Trainings check box only if you want to update existing external training information. Leave the check box unselected if you want to add only new external training information without modifying previously uploaded data.
- Click Save.
