Examples: Subcodes

You use team subcodes to identify team levels. Valid subcodes are multi-character codes, separated from one another by colons. You can have up to five levels.

Examples

Assume, for example, that the first level of your team structure represents your firm’s offices. You could give the offices two-character subcodes such as:

  • CO Corporate
  • BO Boston
  • CH Chicago
  • LV Las Vegas

Assume that your second level represents disciplines. The discipline subcodes could be:

  • GEN General
  • ARC Architecture
  • ENG Engineering
  • ENV Environmental

When you put the subcodes together, you can track two-level entities, such as:

  • CH:ARC Chicago/Architecture
  • LV:ENV Las Vegas/Environmental
  • BO:ENV Boston/Environmental

Because you can have up to five team levels, you can have up to five subcodes (for example, NA:MO:09:04 to represent the North American division, Montreal office, Department 9, Discipline 4).
