Pre-Invoice Setup and Configuration

Before you can create and process pre-invoices and their associated cash receipts, complete these setup steps for each company in your enterprise.

Step Location in DPS
Turn on the Pre-Invoices feature and enter a pre-invoice receipt offset account (typically a liability account) to use for cash receipts for pre-invoices. Miscellaneous tab of Settings > Billing > General in the desktop application.
Create invoice templates for pre-invoices and pre-invoice cancellations. This includes selecting labels and options for the Pre-Invoice section of the invoice templates. All tabs of Billing > Invoice Template Editor in the desktop application.
Select options and labels for the Pre-invoice section of regular invoices for projects that use pre-invoices. Sections tab of Billing > Invoice Template Editor in the desktop application.
Specify the following pre-invoice information for each project:
  • Pre-invoice and cancellation invoice templates to use.
  • Pre-Invoice note to display in the Note column of the Pre-Invoice section of an invoice.
  • Phase and task for cash receipts that are posted to pre-invoices (if you use phases/tasks).
