Contents of the Reschedule Dialog Box

Use the fields and options on the Reschedule dialog box to change labor assignment date ranges or plan date ranges.

Field Description
Resource and WBS path

If you display this dialog box from a resource row, the name of the resource and the path through the project work breakdown structure (WBS) to the level of the resource displays in the upper-left corner of the dialog box.

If you display this dialog box from a WBS row, the path through the project WBS to the level of that WBS element displays in the upper-left corner of the dialog box.

Shift

To change the date range but keep the same number of working days between the start and end date and keep the same distribution of planned labor hours, select this option.

If some working days have no planned hours in the current schedule, the corresponding working days in the new schedule will have no hours.

Change Duration To lengthen or shorten the assignment date range or plan date range, select this option.
Redistribute Hours Evenly on Changed Assignments, or Don't Redistribute If you are rescheduling plan dates and planned labor hours and amounts exist, and you select Change Duration, select Redistribute Hours Evenly on Changed Assignments to redistribute the affected planned labor hours and amounts evenly over the new date range.

If you are rescheduling plan dates and a labor resource assignment for a rescheduled WBS element has a resource assignment with a start date that either matches the original plan start date or is earlier than the new plan start date, that assignment date is adjusted to match the plan start date. Likewise, if an assignment has an end date that either matches the original plan end date or is later than the new plan end date, that assignment date is adjusted to match the plan end date. By default, only labor resource assignment rows for which the assignment dates are changed in this way have their hours redistributed. However, if you also select Replace All Child Dates with New Parent Dates, the plan dates or assignment dates for all the child rows are adjusted to match the new plan dates, in which case these redistribution options also apply to any additional affected assignments with planned hours.

Select Don't Redistribute to keep the current distribution of planned labor hours.

These options do not affect planned amounts for expenses or consultants.

If you are rescheduling plan dates for which no planned hour and amounts exist, these options are not available.

Distribute Labor Hours and Amounts Evenly, or Don't Redistribute Labor Hours and Amounts If you are rescheduling assignment dates and you select Change Duration, select Distribute Labor Hours and Amounts Evenly to redistribute the affected planned labor hours and amounts evenly over the new assignment date range.

Select Don't Redistribute Labor Hours and Amounts to keep the current distribution of planned labor hours.

If you are rescheduling assignment dates for which no planned hour and amounts exist, these options are not available.

From This Assignment/Plan Date Range

These fields display the current assignment start and end dates or plan start and end dates, depending on the type of row selected in the planning grid.

If this dialog box displays because you changed a start or end date in the planning grid or if you selected the Change Duration option, you cannot change these dates. However, if you clicked to display this dialog box and you selected Shift, you can do either of the following:
  • Leave these dates unchanged. The entire date range will be rescheduled.
  • Change one or both of these dates. Only that part of the original date range will be rescheduled. The dates you select cannot be outside of the original date range.
To This Assignment/Plan Date Range

Enter the new assignment date range or plan date range for the assignment or WBS row.

If you selected the Shift option, you select either a new start date or a new end date, and DPS determines the other date needed to keep the same number of working days in the range. (If you entered a new start or end date in the planning grid before you displayed this dialog box, that date displays by default, and DPS calculates the other date. If you did not enter one of the dates in the planning grid before you displayed this dialog box, you enter the new start date, and DPS calculates the end date.)

If you selected the Change Duration option, you select both the start date and end date for the range.

Replace All Child Dates with New Parent Dates

If you are rescheduling plan dates and selected the Change Duration option, select this check box to change the plan dates or assignment dates for all the child rows to match the new plan dates and, optionally, to redistribute their hours and amounts based on the new dates.

If this check box is not selected, dates for child rows are only adjusted if they match the original plan dates or fall outside the new plan date range.

Reschedule

To complete the rescheduling and close the dialog box, click Reschedule. When the process finishes, a completion message displays at the top of the page.

If you are rescheduling assignment dates, DPS verifies that new assignment date ranges are completely within the applicable plan date ranges. If not, a message displays asking if you want to update the plan dates to include the new assignment date ranges.

DPS then does the following:
  • Changes the affected plan or assignment dates.
  • Redistributes planned hours. If hours are moved to a date range in which the resource already has planned hours, the rescheduled hours are distributed proportionally across that date range based on the distribution of the preexisting planned hours.
  • Updates values displayed in all planning grids to reflect the new schedule.
