Primary Disciplines

A primary discipline is an employee's main area of expertise or skill, such as architect or civil engineer. Maintain an accurate list of disciplines and employee skills to streamline the proposal process and ensure that you have the expertise needed to bid on projects and win contracts.

You can associate multiple skills with each employee on the Skills grid on the Professional tab of the Employees hub, but only one skill can be marked Primary.

The Proposals application uses primary disciplines in these ways:

  • In SF254 Proposals (Block 8) and SF255 Proposals (Block 4), Vantagepoint enters the skill marked Primary in the Employees hub as the employee's primary discipline.
  • For SF330 Proposals, you select the disciplines that you need to complete a project, then enter these disciplines into your proposal. Vantagepoint searches the Employees hub for employees whose primary skill matches the disciplines that are required for the proposal.
