Profit by Org Hierarchy Table

This table displays the profit or gross profit amount or margin by organizational level and project. When you select an organization, each respective lower organizational level displays as a column on the table. See Focus the Table for more information.

The start and end date for the analysis period displays as part of the caption, and the caption updates as you change dates. This information is important for cases where there is baseline or budget data beyond the current period.

Table Data

The following data displays on this table:

Chart Item

Description

Projected Amount and Projected Margin

These columns display the Projected Amount and Projected Margin for either the profit or gross profit. This depends on the Profit Type setting on the User Options tab.

The Period or YTD settings also impact the data that displays on this table. Period is data for the current analysis period, while YTD provides a cumulative, rolling perspective within a given year. See Period or YTD for more information.

If the timeframe extends beyond the current period, the columns display projections that include Budget Baseline or Forecast data, depending on the Budget Type setting on the User Options tab.

Period or Year-to-Date

There are two ways to view profit: Period and Year-To-Date (YTD). The type of chart impacts the data that displays on the charts.

Period is data for the current analysis period, while YTD provides a cumulative, rolling perspective within a given year. For example, February = January + February, March =  January + February + March, and so on.

Profit defaults to YTD when used initially, but you can switch the chart type at any time.

To switch the type of chart...

  1. Locate the chart type options.

  2. Click Period or YTD. The selected option's button turns green, and the pertinent information on the charts and tables updates to reflect your selection.

User Options That Affect the Table

The following options on the User Options tab affect this chart:

For descriptions of how each option affects Profit Analytics, see User Options That Affect Profit.

Maximize the Table

Click to display the table at its maximum size so you can read it and interact with it more easily. Click to restore the table to its original size and location on the tab.

Focus the Table

The default view for this table is your entry-level org/reorg, but you can view additional levels by clicking the sign. As you open each level of the hierarchy, you can continue clicking the sign in the columns until you reach the lowest level you want to view. Conversely, click the sign to close each level as you move back up to the top of the hierarchy.

If you focus the table by selecting a row, Costpoint Analytics applies the same change, as appropriate, to all other analytic objects.

Sort the Table

Because this is a pivot table, you cannot change the order of data in the table as you can with most other tables in Costpoint Analytics.

Send the Table Data to Excel

Click to send the data underlying the table to Microsoft Excel. The data that displays in the Excel spreadsheet is dependent on the number of organization levels that are displayed in the hierarchy. For example, if you click + and open every level of the hierarchy, all of these levels will display on the spreadsheet. The same is true if you click - to close every level of the hierarchy and then click . Only the top organization level will display.
