Post Service Request Journal
Use this screen to post service request transactions to the General Ledger for a specific fiscal year, period, and subperiod. You can only post when the selected period is open, the transactions are ready to post, and you have printed the journal report in the current session. If the period or subperiod is closed, posting will stop and display a message.
Costpoint only posts transactions that fall within your selected date range and have not yet been posted. It also verifies that the required accounts are in place, such as Revenue, Accounts Receivable, or Deferred Revenue. If any required account is missing, the process stops with an error.
When posting occurs, Costpoint automatically creates the appropriate journal entries based on how the revenue is recognized. It may post amounts to Revenue, Unbilled Accounts Receivable, or Deferred Revenue, depending on the setup. If liquidation applies, Costpoint ensures the amount does not exceed allowed limits and calculates the final invoice amount.
For transactions in multiple currencies, Costpoint updates both the original and base currency amounts but does not recalculate exchange rates during posting, so currency settings must remain unchanged.
If you choose additional options, the system can also post deferred revenue over time, apply cost corrections, and determine the correct project and organization to charge based on your setup rules.
COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) is handled as part of an optional correction step during posting. If you choose to post Component COGS Corrections, Costpoint looks for cost entries related to component issues that have not yet been posted. These are typically costs tied to materials or components used in fulfilling a service request.
