The United States Munitions List (USML) is a list of articles, services, and related technical data that are designated as defense-related or inherently military in character by the United States federal government. Export and import of defense-related articles and services on the USML are regulated under the conditions set by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) interprets and enforces ITAR. Its goal is to safeguard U.S. national security and further U.S. foreign policy objectives.
