Effective User Rights Report

What can I do in this screen?

Use this screen to generate a report that contains the effective module and function rights for a user. These rights are a combination of the group rights and the user override rights for each user. The default sort for this report is by company.

When the Use Web Security model for Client/Server option in the System Settings (Others » System Administration » System Settings) screen of Client Server is selected, you are cautioned when the option to print C/S rights is selected for this report

When should I use this screen?

Print this report whenever you need to review the effective user rights for Costpoint users.

Field Descriptions

Identification

Use the fields in this block to create a new parameter ID or to retrieve a previously saved parameter ID.  A parameter ID represents a set of screen selection parameters.  Once you have saved a parameter ID and its related parameters, you can retrieve them using Query.

You can use the retrieved parameters to produce reports and run processes more efficiently and with greater consistency.  Many users save a unique set of parameters for each different way they run a report or process.  If you select a previously saved parameter ID or parameter description, the associated saved screen selection parameters will automatically display as selection defaults.  You can change any of the associated selection defaults as necessary.

Parameter ID *

Enter, or use Query to select, a parameter ID of up to 15 alphanumeric characters.  You should choose characters for your parameter ID that help identify the type of selections you made in the screen, such as “PERIOD” or “QUARTERLY.”

When you save your record, all the selections made in the screen are stored with the parameter ID. Later, you can retrieve the parameter using Query.

You can use the parameter to produce reports and run processes more efficiently because you can select the parameter ID with its previously defined screen selections.  Once the default selections display in the screen, you can override the defaults as necessary.

Description *

Enter, or use Query to select, a parameter description of up to 30 alphanumeric characters.

Options

Use this group box to determine what information shows on this report.

Show

Client/Server Rights

Select this option to trigger the execution of the Client/Server Rights Variance report.

When you do not select this option, the execution of the Web-Only Rights report is triggered. That report has the same layout as the Client/Server Rights Variance report but omits the Client/Server Rights, Rights Source, Group ID and Variance columns.

See the note for this topic about how using various combinations of these options affect the content of the report.

Data selection depends upon which combination of the Client/Server Rights, Client/Server Variances Only and Client/Server-Only Applications options have been selected.

Scenario #1:

  •  Client/Server Rights  selected

  •  Client/Server Variances Only selected

  •  Client/Server-Only Applications not selected

In this scenario, the variance report is executed. This report shows the subset of all modules and applications that exist in both the Web and client/server versions of Costpoint, and it only shows those modules and applications where there is a variance in either the level of rights or the source of those rights. Records where the rights and source of those rights are the same are suppressed.

Scenario #2

  •  Client/Server Rights  selected

  •  Client/Server Variances Only not selected

  •  Client/Server-Only Applications not selected

The same report is executed as in the first scenario, except that all records display regardless of whether the rights and source of those rights are the same or different.

Scenario #3:

  •  Client/Server Rights  selected

  •  Client/Server Variances Only not selected

  •  Client/Server-Only Applications selected

The same report is executed as in the first two scenarios, except that the variance report shows all modules and applications in both the Web and client/server versions of Costpoint, regardless of whether applications exist only in one version of the product. Furthermore, all modules and applications display regardless of whether the rights and source of those rights are the same or different.

Scenario #4:

  •  Client/Server Rights  not selected

  •  Client/Server Variances Only not selected

  •  Client/Server-Only Applications not selected

In this scenario, the “Web-Only” report is executed and client/server modules and applications are ignored entirely (for example, no variance report and report columns showing client/server rights information displays).

If the Result Set, Report and Action Rights option is selected, two additional break groups are added to the report: one for result set rights and one for a combined grouping of report and action rights. While the ordering of the report in the header section may vary depending upon whether Company or User is selected in the 1st Sort field, the detail section remains the same for all three sort options, with Result Set rights shown first, followed by the section which combines Report and Action rights.

Client/Server Variances Only

See the accompanying note to see how various combinations of these options affect the content of the report.

Client/Server-Only Applications

See the accompanying note to see how various combinations of these options affect the content of the report.

Result Set, Report and Action Rights

Select this option to group Result Set, Report and Action Rights with the applications that use them. (This option is only available when Show Client/Server Rights is not selected.)
