Product Classifications

What can I do in this screen?

Use this screen to define product classification codes and descriptions.  You can also link "products types" to the classification codes you establish in this screen.

A product classification is a detailed grouping of items within a product type.

"Laptop," for instance, might represent a product classification code.  This code might be associated with the "Hardwr" (Hardware) product type.  Likewise, "Costpt," might represent a product classification code.  This code might be associated with the "Softwr" (Software) product type.

You can assign the product classification to individual items and sort by these classifications in various reports.

Typically, you will use product classifications in the Sales Order Entry applications to sort or group types of sales.

When should I use this screen?

You must initialize the Product Types screen before you add records in this application.

You should define entries in this screen as part of your initial Costpoint setup or any time you need to add product classifications.
