Use this screen to define the rules for calculating the number of overtime hours for a given time period (daily or weekly) for a specific overtime location. The data you define in this screen works in conjunction with the Alloc Comp OT Across TS Lines process, which ensures proper calculation of overtime hours.
You can define overtime rules differently for each labor location. You can establish a labor location and a labor group for each employee referenced in the Employee Salary Information screen.
If you have set up this screen for a specific labor location and the timesheet line references that labor location, the system first looks to this screen (the Overtime Rules by Location screen) instead of the Overtime Rules by State screen. If a record is found in this screen, the application will use it to calculate the overtime hours. If a record is not found in this screen, the system will use the data in the Overtime Rules by State screen.
The Overtime Rules by Location program must provide a greater benefit to the employee than the Overtime Rules by State application. For example, you would use the Overtime Rules by Location program, rather than Overtime Rules by State, if an employer wanted to pay overtime for over seven hours worked in a day for a specific location.
You must initialize the Labor Groups/Unions and Labor Locations/Locals screens before creating records in this application.
Can I change or delete entries from this screen?
After you save a record, you can edit data in the OT Basis and Exempt Hours fields; however, after you save a record, you cannot edit data in either the Labor Location or Labor Group field. These fields are non-editable.
You can delete entries from this screen at any time.
Enter, or use Lookup to select, the desired location.
Enter, or use Lookup to select, the labor group that will be associated with entries in the OT Basis and Labor Location fields.
OT Basis *
Use the drop-down box to make a selection. The choices are "Daily" and "Weekly."
Daily - If you select this option, the Alloc Comp OT Across TS Lines application determines overtime by computing the number of hours worked in a day and comparing that number to the value in the Exempt Hours field. For example, if 10 hours are worked in a day and Exempt Hours is "7," the result will be three overtime hours.
Weekly - If you select this option, the system determines overtime by comparing the number of hours worked in a week to the value in the Exempt Hours field. For example, if 44 hours are worked in a week and Exempt Hours is "35," the result will be nine overtime hours.
The overtime calculation program takes into consideration timesheets that contain different states with conflicting overtime basis rules. It calculates the overtime for each location separately. States with a daily basis are done first. The weekly OT basis calculation then subtracts all previous daily OT hours from the weekly-calculated overtime hours.
You must enter daily timesheets to have this calculation performed accurately.
Enter the number of hours that are exempt from overtime classification as determined by the OT Basis field. For example, "7" is appropriate for a daily overtime basis and "35" is appropriate for a weekly overtime basis.
