Use this screen to define GLC (General Labor Category) codes and descriptions.
A GLC is similar to a job title. "Accounting Clerk I" and "Software Engineer" might represent GLC descriptions, for example.
Although you can use this screen to link the GLC to a PLC (Project Labor Category), it is more common to link GLCs to PLCs in the Link GLCs to Project PLCs screen. One purpose for linking GLCs to PLCs is to establish timesheet line defaults for PLCs.
If you choose not to use this screen, you must create at least one entry because this field is required on each timesheet line. In this case, you might create the code "ALL," for example. The Labor Category field, which allows entry of a GLC or PLC, is also required in the Wage Determination Rates screen. You can use the Wage Determination Rates screen to enter specific project information and labor data in order to vary pay rates based on the type of work performed.
In order to change the GLC on a timesheet line, you must have selected the Allow GLC Change on Timesheet checkbox in the Labor Settings screen.
You must initialize this screen before you can set up data in the Wage Determination Rates screens.
Can I change or delete GLCs from this screen?
After you have saved a record, you can edit the GLC Description, PLC Code, and Rate fields, even if you have assigned the GLC to an existing Costpoint record. You cannot, however, modify text in the GLC Code field. This field is non-editable.
If you have not assigned a GLC to an existing Costpoint record, you can delete the code from this screen. You cannot delete the code from this screen if it has been assigned to a record because dependent data exists.
How does the system use data from this screen?
The GLCs you enter in this screen can also be grouped or sorted for reporting purposes in the Project Labor Summary Report in the Projects domain.
GLC Code *
Enter up to six alphanumeric characters to identify the GLC. Each value must be unique.
Enter up to 30 alphanumeric characters to describe the GLC.
Enter, or use Lookup to select, the PLC code.
Although this is not a required field, you should select n value if you want to link a PLC to this GLC; however, it is more common to link PLCs to GLCs in the Link GLCs to Project PLCs screen.
Rate *
Enter the rate for this GLC. The data here is used for reference only. The system does not use this data to perform calculations.
Note: Since the Labor Settings screen is not available in this web version, you must make settings changes in the client/server version. After you complete your settings modifications, you must return to the web version and access the Reload Global Settings screen (Administration\Utilities\System Administration\Reload Global Settings). This utility establishes continuity between the web and client/server environments. Select the appropriate checkbox and click the Action icon to execute synchronization. |
* A red asterisk denotes a required field.
Changes to this screen update the LD_GEN_LAB_CAT (General Labor Categories) and BILL_LAB_CAT (Project Labor Categories) tables.
