In the client/server version of Costpoint, segment separators (periods or dashes) automatically display when you enter a value in the Account, Organization, Project, Reference Number 1, and/or Reference Number 2 fields, as applicable.
The multi-level data fields that are separated by periods or dashes are called "segmented ID" fields. Examples are listed below:
Account |
01000-010100 |
Organization |
1.3 |
Project |
3000.001.01 |
Reference 1 |
DPT.005 |
Costpoint web provides the same segment separator functionality, but the speed at which the separators display in the screen data fields depends upon the validation frequency you select at time of login.
You can select whether validations should occur when leaving a field, when leaving a record, or when saving the application. Your selection governs the frequency at which the data is validated as well as the frequency at which the system retrieves and displays the segment separators.
If you select a "Field" validation (the system default), the system will make a trip back to the database to validate the entry and supply the segment separators as soon as you move to a different data field.
If you select a "Record" validation, the system will make a trip back to the database to validate the entry and supply the segment separators as soon as you move to a different line.
If you select an "Application" (or "batch" type) validation, the system will make a trip back to the database to validate the entry and supply the segment separators as soon as you try to save the screen data.
Note: The system will not automatically supply any segment separator if the field already contains an instance of the special character (for example, the user entered a segment separator in the field). |
