The utilities in the Stand-Alone System Administration system allow Costpoint system administrators to clear two database problems that may be preventing users, including the system administrator, from entering Costpoint functions. In these two situations, the Costpoint database indicates that either: (1) logins have been disabled, or (2) the maximum number of licensed users is already logged into Costpoint. When either of these situations occurs, the Costpoint system administrator can run these utilities to clear the database tables so that users may proceed to log into Costpoint or start up Costpoint functions.
Normally, the Costpoint system administrator is the only user who is given the right to execute these utilities. In order to run these utilities, a user must have two kinds of rights: (1) the right to execute the Stand-Alone System Administration Utility and (2) the right to execute the Enable/Disable Costpoint Usage and the Clear User(s) functions in Costpoint System Administration. If you only grant one of these rights and not the other, the user will not be able to run the utilities.
You give a user the right to execute the Stand-Alone System Administration Utility through a setting on the Maintain Users function of Costpoint System Administration. In the main Maintain Users screen, check the Stand-Alone Sys Admin Utility checkbox. This right is granted individually on a user-by-user basis.
Granting the rights to the same-named functions in Costpoint System Administration gives a user the right to execute the two functions in the Stand-Alone System Administration Utility. The two functions are (1) Enable/Disable Costpoint Usage and (2) Clear User(s). These rights can be granted for an entire group in the Maintain User Groups screen or for an individual user in the Maintain User Override Rights screen. Both screens are under the System Security top-level menu of Costpoint System Administration.
You will need to execute these utilities when your users are unable to log in into Costpoint because logins are disabled, or when your users are unable to start up a function because the number of licensed users has been exceeded. Users will receive a message stating the reason they cannot log in.
To execute these utilities, choose the appropriate Stand-Alone icon from the Costpoint menu or enter File/Run SAMENLOG.EXE (Enable/Disable Costpoint Usage) and SAMCLR.EXE (Clear User(s)) from the Windows Program Manager. The regular Costpoint login screen will appear. Log into Costpoint as you normally would. At the end of the login process, clear the problem so that your users can log in again or start up functions.
Exit these utilities when you are finished.
