Process Server queues have information on all entries that have been submitted by users for execution by a process server. The Process Server records the ID and description of the entry, the user who submitted it, when the user submitted it, when the user wants it to be executed, the printer the user wants for printing the reports, and the current status of the entry (whether it is waiting to execute, on hold, or being executed). In addition, if the entry is being executed, the queue records when it started and which server is executing it.
Before starting a Process Server, you must create the queue whose entries the server will execute. Queues are maintained in the Maintain Queues screen (under the Setup menu in Costpoint Process Management).
To create a queue, enter the Maintain Queues screen. Enter the ID in the Queue group box and set the initial Status to "Active" or "Hold." Then select Save. The queue has been created.
Give considerable thought to how many queues you want to create. Chances are that you will not delete your queues, but instead leave them available all the time for submission of entries. If you want to use more than one queue, you might designate one of them for jobs that must be executed immediately, or you might designate different queues for different departments. Or, if you want, you can have just one queue for your entire company.
After you have created a queue, you can return to it any time to review or change the status of the queue or any of its entries. Use the Maintain Queues screen to view all information about the queue, the entries in it, and the servers that are executing the entries.
The Change/Monitor Process Status screen provides the same information as the Maintain Queues screen; however, you can only change the status of the queue entries - not the status of the queue.
The two possible statuses for a queue are "Active" and "Hold." "Active" means entries in the queue can be executed by a Process Server. "Hold" means that no entries in it can be executed. Additional entries can be submitted to a queue that is on "Hold," but none of them will be executed.
