PROCESS SERVER CONFIGURATION

Use this screen to enter specific process server configuration information before you enter the Costpoint Process Server. For more details, refer to Special Topic PM-1, "The Costpoint Process Server."

Enter the information required in this screen before you can enter the Costpoint Process Server.

Server

Use this drop-down box to select a server from a list of available "inactive" servers. You can enter a unique ID not already being used for another server; use a descriptive code so that anyone viewing a function that displays the server ID can readily understand which workstation is running the process server.

Note: If you try to enter a server that currently has an "Active" status, the system displays a message warning you to make sure that no users are logged into the server. If you launch the server and the status is "Active," any existing queue entries being executed will be marked as "Aborted." You will have to go to the Change/Monitor Process Status or Maintain Queues screens to resubmit or delete those queue entries.

Queue

Use this drop-down box to select from a list of available queues monitored by the server. Queues are established in the Maintain Queues screen.

Save Settings

Select this checkbox to save the profile entered in this screen in the CPSERVER.INI file. The use of the file is explained in Special Topic PM-1, "The Costpoint Process Server."

Process Server

Shutdown Time

Enter the time you want the server to stop polling the database for queue entries.

Reconnect Time

Enter the time you want the server to start polling the database for queue entries.

Note: You should use the Shutdown Time and Reconnect Time fields when database polling by a dedicated process server may interfere with sensitive database operations (e.g., if you run database backup overnight, say from 10:00 p.m. till 2:00 a.m., you could enter 9:00 p.m. in the Shutdown Time field and 3:00 a.m. in the Reconnect Time field). You can use this feature to reduce the number of times you need to shut down the server.

Startup Status

Select a startup status for the server in this group box.

Hold

If you select this radio button (the default), no entries in the queue will be executed.

Active

If you select this radio button, entries in the queue will start executing immediately.

Table Window

Printer ID

This column displays all of the available printer IDs assigned to processes in the servers queue.

Note: All available printer IDs will be displayed. Since a user can submit a process using any printer ID, you must link a printer to each printer ID.

Printer

This column displays all the available printers for the server as defined in your printer settings. If you do not associate a printer with a Printer ID, the default printer settings will be automatically assigned.

Note: If you previously connected to the process server, the printer IDs will already have associated printers. If one or more of the printers are not defined (or someone other than yourself logged into the server last and had different printer settings), the screen will prompt you to enter valid printers. If you proceed without updating the printers, the default printer will be automatically assigned to any Printer ID linked to an invalid printer.
