Use this screen to generate planned orders and MPS action message reports for MPS planned parts. The process checks supply and demand for all selected MPS parts, projects, companies, and warehouses.
This screen process is similar to the Update Material Requirements Plan in Material Requirements Planning. Both applications update low-level code information and populate the same supply and demand tables. Planned orders are generated for parts with identified shortages and generate action messages to identify issues with parts and current orders. Unlike the Update Material Requirements Plan, this screen only plans parts with a planning type of MPS (defined in the Planning Part Data screen in Product Definition). Action messages generated from this screen are visible only in MPS module screens and reports, not in the MRP module screens and reports.
The Generate Master Production Schedules application allows you to select specific parts, projects and warehouses. Parts, projects, warehouses and MPS Plans that are not selected will not be impacted by the current process. Unlike the Update Material Requirements Plan screen, it does not use the part's net change flag to determine which parts to plan, but sets the part's net change flag to No if the part is fully planned for all projects, warehouses, and companies.
Note that it is possible to generate planned orders and action messages for MPS parts using the Update Material Requirements Plan screen as long as the Plan MPS Part Requirements option is selected in the Corporate Settings subtask of the MRP Settings screen. If this option is enabled, and the Update Material Requirements Plan is run after or instead of this screen, action messages for MPS parts may only be visible in the MRP module action message screens and reports.
From the drop-down box of all available MPS plans, select the one for which you want to generate a schedule. The default option is "Production," which means the MPS plan for the official production plan will be processed. If you select any other MPS plan code, the official production plan will not be affected.
Select this checkbox if you want to plan parts, as well as supply and demand data, from all companies in your enterprise.
If you do not check this box, Costpoint filters data using the company identifier for the current (active) company so that you can select parts and use supply/demand data for the current company only.
This option is not available if you have selected the Process MRP by Company option, or deselected the Plan MRP by Company option, in the MRP Corporate Settings subtask of the MRP Settings screen.
Use the options in this group box to specify which MPS planned parts to include in the process:
From the drop-down box, select the range of parts/part revisions to be included: "All" (the default), "One," "Range," "From Beginning," or "To End."
Enter, or use Lookup to select, the part ID or part revision to be the starting point of parts included. If you select "All" or "From Beginning" in the Range Option field, this field is not available.
Enter, or use Lookup to select, the part ID or part revision to be the end point of parts included. If you select "All," "One," or "To End" in the Range Option field, this field is not available.
Use the options in this group box to specify the inventory projects to include in the schedule. The project planning groups will be used later to determine what supply and demand information should be used for each part processed.
Select one of these settings from the drop-down box:
All Projects—Considers all project planning groups. Plans supply and demand data from all MRP-planned inventory projects.
Netting Group—Plans all projects planned by netting group and linked to the Netting Group field listed below.
You set up netting groups in the Production Control application. Each netting group consists of a group of inventory projects.
During planning processes, Costpoint treats the netting group as a single entity.
Project Planning Group—Processes only one project's planning group. Plans all supply and demand for inventory projects in the project planning group named in the corresponding Project field.
If you set Project Selection Option to "Netting Group," use this field to enter, or use Lookup to select, the netting group of projects to include in the schedule.
If you set Project Selection Option to "Project Planning Group," use this field to enter, or use Lookup to select, the inventory project to include in the planning process.
If you have selected the Plan Warehouse Separately option (on the MRP Corporate Settings subtask for MRP Settings), Costpoint plans supply and demand records separately for each warehouse.
If the Plan Warehouse Separately option is not selected on the MRP Corporate Settings subtask for MRP Settings, Costpoint does not plan supply and demand by warehouse and this option is not available to you.
From the drop-down box, select the range of warehouses to be included: "All" (the default), "One," "Range," "From Beginning," or "To End."
Enter, or use Lookup to select, the warehouse that will be the starting point. If you select "All" or "From Beginning" in the Range Option field, this field is not available.
Enter, or use Lookup to select, the warehouse that will be the end point. If you select "All," "One," or "To End" in the Range Option field, this field is not available.
The MPS time fence is intended to limit changes to the production schedule within a specified amount of time in the future.
Use this option to specify whether any planned orders with due dates falling inside the MPS time fence should be scheduled to fall outside the range of dates for the time fence. From the drop-down, select one of these settings:
Set Due Date to Outside Time Fence—If the application determines that a part requires a planned order, but the due date is within the MPS time fence for that part, the application will automatically reset the due date to the first calendar or shop date outside the time fence.
Ignore Planning Fence—The MPS time fence will be ignored when determining the due date for the planned order.
Select how existing, open forecast quantities for past periods should be processed. Forecasts that are open and past-due exist when the forecasted need date falls before the current date, and the open sales forecast quantity and/or the open user-defined forecast quantity are greater than zero.
From the drop-down box, select one of these settings:
Rollover to Next Period—Costpoint rolls past-due forecasts into the next time period.
Remove—Costpoint deletes or reduces the open forecast quantities to zero (if Retain Forecast History is selected in MPS Settings) for the past-due forecasts.
No Action—Past-due open forecasts are not impacted.
The Costpoint tables impacted are listed in the following table:
