Unique Item Identification (UID)

Use the fields in this subtask to enter information required for automatic generation of the Unique Item Identification (UID) for WAWF-RA (Wide Area Work Flow – Receipts and Acceptance), the web-based electronic billing system used by the government to track and pay invoices from contractors. Unique identifiers are sets of data elements marked on items that are globally unique and unambiguous.

If the UID is automatically generated, the information entered in the following two fields defaults into the serial lot screens in various applications. and is associated with the UID for the serial lot row.  In those applications, if the UID is manually assigned, you must manually enter values for IAC and EID associated with the UID code that may have been provided by another manufacturer or vendor.

Enterprise Identifier

Enter your assigned Enterprise Identifier (EI) code. This is a unique code assigned by the issuing agency to the manufacturer, vendor, contractor, or others that is responsible for creating the unique identifier. This code is alphanumeric with a maximum of 13 characters.

Issuing Agency Code

Enter your assigned Issuing Agency Code (IAC). This code is associated with the issuing agency, an organization responsible for assigning a non-repeatable identifier to an enterprise.  This code is alphanumeric with a maximum of 3 characters.  Examples of issuing agencies codes are: LB - US Dept of Defense (DoDAAC), UN - Dun & Bradstreet (DUNS), D - Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE), and others.

UID Prefix

Enter the UID prefix.

This is a user-defined alphanumeric field with of a maximum of 16 characters.  Your entry can consist of letters from A to Z (CAPS only) and numbers from 0 to 9.  The only special characters allowed are dashes (-) and forward slashes (/) that might be part of original part numbers and/or serial numbers. You cannot use spaces.  It is the responsibility of the user to enter the correct prefix.  There are no validations to verify its authenticity.

The UID prefix consists of the Issuing Agency Code (IAC) along with the Enterprise Identifier (EI) as assigned by the issuing agency.

Combine the IAC and EI to generate the UID prefix.  Two examples:

The combination of codes is not "fixed length". The prefix string can be compressed to the number of available characters without entering extraneous characters to obtain the maximum 16 characters.

UID Type

Enter or use the binoculars icon to select the UID Type from those existing in the system maintained table. If you enter a type not listed in the table, a warning displays but you are still able to make your entry.

Current UID Types maintained in the system are:

If you plan to use auto-generation for the UID, you must select UID1 or UID2. This selection determines the method used to auto-generate the remainder of the UID code. These selections generate results as follows:
