BILLS OF MATERIAL OVERVIEW

Use Costpoint Bills of Material to set up and maintain the hierarchical relationship of parts as a Bills of Material (BOM) structure. You can plan and produce manufactured/purchased items, as well as plan and design parts/assemblies in an engineering environment.

Use the Bills of Material Controls menu to customize setup, establish Manufacturing Bills of Material (MBOMs) for production planning and Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and to create, maintain, and release Engineering Bills of Material (EBOMs). You can make online BOM inquiries to view assemblies, and single-level or multi-level components of assemblies. Moreover, you can copy MBOMs and EBOMs into one another to allow a seamless exchange of part information between manufacturing and engineering environments. You also have a choice of reports for various modes of reporting and analysis.

If you selected the Separate Items By Company checkbox in the Product Definition Corporate Settings subtask of the Product Definition Settings screen, new items and documents will automatically be linked to the company of the user entering the item or document. Users logged into other companies will not be able to use these BOMs.

You can also have multiple Bills of Material records that are linked to different companies with the same Assembly Part (and revisions, if the Allow Multiple Revisions for Each Item checkbox is also selected in Product Definition Corporate Settings subtask).

If you did not select the Separate Items by Company checkbox, all items and documents in the database will be available to users in all companies. The Bills of Material (MBOM/EBOM) created for an Assembly Part (and revisions, if applicable) will apply to all companies. Users logged in to any company will be able to use these BOMs.

The following menus are included in this module:

Bills of Material Controls

Use these screens to establish configurations, parameters, and defaults used in BOM processing. The functions under this menu include BOM Settings, Configuration Identifiers, Work Centers, Document Media, Document Sizes, Document Types, and Document Maintenance Groups.

Manufacturing Bills of Material

Use these screens to create, release, and maintain Manufacturing Bills of Material (MBOMs). You can issue single and multiple releases of MBOMs, of various end-item configurations. Functions under this menu include Maintain MBOM, Release MBOM, Release Multiple Manufacturing BOMs, and Maintain End Item Configurations.

Engineering Bills of Material

Use these screens to create, release, and maintain Engineering Bills of Material (EBOMs). You can issue single and multiple releases of EBOMs, of various end-item configurations. Functions under this menu include Maintain EBOM, Release EBOM, and Release Multiple Engineering BOMs.

Documents

Use these screens to maintain and release documents that are needed for parts within a BOM. The functions under this menu include Maintain Documents and Release Documents.

Copy Bills of Material

Use this screen to copy existing bills of material assemblies, components, and subassemblies, including copying EBOMs to MBOMs, MBOMs to EBOMs, PBOMs to EBOMs, and PBOMs to MBOMs.  You can also use this screen to convert provisional part assemblies into standard parts.

Perform Mass Component Change

Use this screen to replace all instances of one component (or subassembly) with another throughout an entire MBOM or EBOM. You can specify both the "From" Component and the "To" Component part/revision combinations as necessary to replace parts. You can choose how the mass change is to be implemented, either by fully replacing the "From " Component part with the "To" Component part, or by replacing the "From" Component part/revision using a date of effectivity. You can also use this application to replace out of effectivity components.

Inquiries

Use these screens to view single-level or multi-level BOMs for various filtering criteria. You can also view the assemblies where the components are used. The functions under this menu include BOM Inquiry, Where-Used Inquiry, and Part Query.

Reports

Use these screens to print Costpoint Bills of Material reports. You can customize the output and layout of records, and send the report to Impromptu, which consists of  tables used for customized reporting in Costpoint. The functions under this menu include Print Indented BOM Report, Print Summarized BOM Report, Print Where-Used Report, Print Costed BOM Report and Print Compare Summarized BOM Report.

Utilities

Use these screens to update low-level codes, check for looping parts, change planning type from no planning to MRP planning, and convert reference designators. The functions under this menu include Update Low - Level Codes and Miscellaneous Toolkits.
