Use this feature to create a new record with the information from an existing record. When you select Clone, you are prompted for the key of the record you are copying from, and then are placed in Insert mode with the copied data.
Clone is not implemented for all functions.
Cloning for the main screen information is done separately from cloning for the subtask information. If you want to clone subtask data, you must first clone on the main form, and then clone on each subtask. The steps required to clone a record are outlined below. There are several scenarios, so pick the one that matches the type of screen on which you are currently working.
1. Main form only, no subtasks
Select Clone to find the record to be copied.
Enter primary key(s) and anything else that needs to be changed.
Select Save to save the cloned record.
2. Subtask linked to the main screen
Select Clone to find the record to be copied.
Enter primary key(s) and anything else that needs to be changed.
Select the subtask pushbutton to open the subtask.
Select Clone to put the subtask in Insert mode.
Enter primary key(s) and anything else that needs to be changed.
Select Save to save the entire cloned record.
3. Subtask linked to the Table Window in the Main Screen
Select Clone to find the record to be copied.
Enter primary key(s) and anything else that needs to be changed.
Select a row in the table window.
Select the subtask pushbutton to open the subtask.
Select Clone to put the subtask in Insert mode.
Enter primary key(s) and anything else that needs to be changed.
Select OK to return to the main screen.
Select another row in the table window.
Select the subtask pushbutton to open the subtask.
Select Clone to put the subtask in Insert mode.
Enter primary key(s) and anything else that needs to be changed.
Select OK to return to the main screen. Continue these last five steps (selecting a row in the table window through selecting OK on the subtask) until you have cloned all the rows in the main screen's table window that you wish.
Select Save to save the entire cloned record.
The Save/Continue menu selection may be selected any time after entering the changes on the main screen in scenarios 2 and 3. This allows the main screen and any subtasks already cloned to be saved, yet still maintain the record in Clone mode so that more subtasks can be cloned. Do this when there are many subtasks for the main screen or when there are a lot of rows in the table window that need to be cloned. Save/Continue may be selected more than once for the same cloned record.
Identify the existing record you want to clone. One or more search fields will be at the top of the screen. Enter any part of one or more of the fields to identify the record for which you are searching.
Select either the Beginning or Within radio button, depending on whether you want the Clone to match the values entered in the search fields with those items in the database that begin with the same values, or for Clone to match the values with those items in the database that contain the values anywhere within them.
Select this pushbutton to find all records that match the search information entered. If only one database record is found matching the search criteria, the Clone screen will close and the data from that record will be placed in the data entry screen.
If more than one record meets the search criteria, the records found will be shown on the Clone screen. After highlighting one of the rows, use this pushbutton to close the Clone screen and have the data from this record placed on the data entry screen. Double-clicking on a highlighted row has the same effect.
Select this pushbutton to cancel the Clone feature. No record will be placed on the data entry screen.
