Notice for On-Premises Customers: Upgrading to Microsoft Framework .NET 4.5.2

This notification was delivered via email in December 2015.

Please be aware we will be upgrading ConceptShare to use Microsoft Framework .NET 4.5.2. This upgrade is required to support new ConceptShare features and functionality. The upgrade will remain in place to support all forthcoming releases. It is important to us that all on-premises installations update smoothly.

Why are we upgrading?

We strive to improve on our user’s experiences and product’s performance. This upgrade provides us with the ability to roll out upgrades faster and expand on product features in a more efficient manner.

What to expect?

The next ConceptShare release has been tested thoroughly against .NET 4.5.2 to ensure there are no negative impacts on users and no breaking changes to the SOAP integration API. At first, users can expect improved ConceptShare performance levels, and we’re excited about delivering forthcoming ConceptShare releases with this upgrade.

Further details on the framework upgrades can be found here.

What needs to be done to upgrade?

  • Make sure to install the .NET 4.5.2 framework on all servers hosting the web application and running the queue service before installing the January 2016 release of ConceptShare.
  • You can download the offline installer here.
  • This is a side-by-side install that does not impact your existing .NET 3.5 installation. In fact, some of you already have this installed on your server if you are using Windows Server 2012. Just ensure you're up to the most current (4.5.2).
  • This may require an update to your IIS Application Pool. For instructions, see On-Premises Installation: Upgrading to ConceptShare V5.

Can I use an earlier version of .NET 4.5?

While technically this should be possible, it is not a good idea. Microsoft is ending support for all versions of .NET 4.5 prior to 4.5.2 in January 12th, 2016. Because of this, we test ConceptShare exclusively against 4.5.2.

We will be highlighting the requirement for .NET 4.5.2 again via email. Share any questions you have with support@conceptshare.com.
