Budgeting & Planning’s Performance & Variance module measures project performance using an original project budget as a baseline, and the EAC as the latest plan for moving forward. For every individual resource deployed by the project manager, it allows the measurement of performance against the original project budget and EAC, revealing the difference or variance between the two over time.
This method exposes which of individual staff and vendor resources have contributed to any performance problems, but more importantly, it forms a basis for quantifying the corrective action that may be necessary to get back on track.
It is essential that the project management authority structure be tied directly to a system of project performance accountability to encourage informed corrective action by all managers when necessary. With its hunt and drill project analysis capability, Budgeting & Planning allows higher level project managers to quickly identify the source of performance problems, and the associated responsible project managers, at any level in the project structure. Finding that person is an important part of the accountability process, and enables the project to move forward.
