Table Formats

The default table format is a straight table, but you can use the Fast Change icon () in the table title bar to display a pivot table.

Filters

The data displayed in the Ad Hoc Data Discovery table is affected by filter values selected on other analytic tabs in Costpoint Analytics – Project. For example, if you select one project manager on the Revenue tab, the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab only displays data for that project manager if you select the Project Manager dimension.

To start your ad hoc data discovery with no filters, click on the toolbar and then select your dimensions and metrics.

You can filter the contents of the table while working on the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab by selecting a cell in the table:

User Options That Affect the Table

The following user options affect the data displayed on the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab:

For convenience, these options are available on the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab as well as on the User Options tab. You can select them in either location.

This table is not affected by the Org or Reorg user option. The Dimensions list does not include reorganizations.

For descriptions of how each user option affects Ad Hoc Data Discovery, see User Options That Affect Ad Hoc Data Discovery.

Maximize the Table

Click to display the table at its maximum size so you can read it and interact with it more easily. Click to restore the table to its original size and location on the tab.

Expand and Collapse Rows (Pivot Table Only)

In the pivot table format, click in a table cell to expand that item to reveal detail at the next level. To collapse the detail for a table item, click in that table cell. To expand or collapse detail for all items in a column, right-click in that column, and click either Expand All or Collapse All on the shortcut menu.

Sort the Table

In the straight table, you can sort the data based on values in any of the columns. In the pivot table, the sorting options are not available.

To sort the table based on the values in one of the columns, double-click the column heading for that column.

To change the sort order from ascending to descending or from descending to ascending, double-click the column heading of the current sort column.

Reorder Columns

For both straight and pivot tables, you can use the mouse to drag and drop columns to change the column order and, as a result, how data is grouped. This is a particularly effective data discovery tool when applied to the pivot table view.
