Ad Hoc Data Discovery: Example

You want to display revenue, cost, and profit for projects owned by your firm's top-level organizations, broken down by top-level performing organization to help you monitor and analyze cross-charges and contributions to your projects from other organizations.

By default, Costpoint Analytics does not enable you to analyze revenue, cost, and profit on the same tab. It also does not enable you to analyze data by both owning organization and performing organization simultaneously. However, you can do both on the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab.

Procedure

  1. You use the calendar bars to select the analysis period you are interested in.

  2. You select the Period option in the upper-left corner of the tab.

  3. You select the Profit option in the upper-left corner of the tab.

  4. In Dimensions, you select Owning Org 1.

  5. In Dimensions, you select Performing Org 1.

  6. In Metrics, you select Revenue, Cost, and Profit.

  7. You click  on the title bar of the Ad Hoc Data Discovery table to display it in the pivot table format.

Result

The table displays your organizations in the Owning Org 1column. For each organization in that column, it lists the performing organizations for that owning organization's projects in the second column. The metric columns display revenue, cost, and profit amounts for each combination of owning and performing organization.
