Ad Hoc Data Discovery: Key Concepts

If the Current Pipeline Analytics in Capture Analytics do not provide exactly the data you need, you can use the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab to quickly create a table based on dimensions and metrics that you select.

Dimensions

Use the Dimensions list to select the dimensions by which you want to break down metric values in the Ad Hoc Data Discovery table. When you select a dimension, Capture Analytics adds a column for it before the first metric column.

User-Defined Field Dimensions

If Capture Analytics is configured to include opportunity user-defined fields (UDEFs), all of the UDEFs are available for use as dimensions in data discovery, except for Date, Currency, and Number UDEFs.

Stage Dimension

If you select the Stage dimension, the table only displays data for stages that are included in the current pipeline.

Dimensions and Security

Which dimensions display in the Ad Hoc Data Discovery table is controlled by the same security settings that control your access to data on the other analytic tabs. For example, the organization access that your system administrator sets up for your Capture Analytics user role determines the organizations for which you can view metric values in the table.

Metrics

Use the Metrics list to select the metrics for which you want to display values in the Ad Hoc Data Discovery table.

When you select a metric, Capture Analytics adds a column for it to the right of the dimension columns. Each row in a metric column contains the value of that metric for the combination of dimensions in that row.

Pipeline Amount Metrics

The Metrics list contains weighted and unweighted pipeline amount fields.

It is common for firms to track the potential value of an opportunity as more than one amount. When your firm implements Capture Analytics, it can select two amount fields from opportunity records in GovWin Capture Management to analyze as pipeline. In addition, you can display amounts from each of those fields as unweighted or weighted (that is, with probability applied).

For more information about pipeline amounts, see Pipeline_Amounts.

User-Defined Field Metrics

If Capture Analytics is configured to include opportunity user-defined fields (UDEFs), all of the Currency and Numeric UDEFs are available for use as metrics in data discovery. Other types of UDEFs are not available for use as metrics.

Analysis Period and Analysis Date

The Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab uses the same analysis period and analysis date as the Current Pipeline does. The default analysis period is automatically set to include all opportunities in the current pipeline.

If you use the calendar bars across the top of the tab to change the analysis period reflected in the table, Capture Analytics recalculates pipeline amounts based on the new set of opportunities with analysis dates in the modified analysis period. Any change you make to the analysis period on either the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab or the Current Pipeline tab is also applied to the other tab.

For more information about the analysis period and analysis date, see Analysis_Period_and_Analysis_Date.

Filters

The data displayed in the Ad Hoc Data Discovery table is affected by filter values selected on other analytic tabs in Capture Analytics. For example, if you select one project manager on the Current Pipeline tab, the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab only displays data for that project manager if you select the Project Manager dimension.

To start your ad hoc data discovery with no filters, click on the toolbar and then select your dimensions and metrics.

To filter the contents of the table while working on the Ad Hoc Data Discovery tab, click in a table cell containing the value you want to filter by.
