Ribbon Commands on the Forensics Tab

Use the ribbon commands to perform such tasks as add additional fields, create a SmartGantt filter, and publish (export) the results.

Until a forensic analysis is performed, the Analysis, SmartGantt, and Publish menu groups are the only visible groups on the tab.

Group Name

Field Description
Create Analysis Click to start the Forensic Analysis wizard to perform a forensic analysis.
Remove Click to remove the selected forensic analysis from the Analysis pane.

Forensic Checks

This group displays the number of differences in Activities, Relationships, Resources, and Calendars. The number of variances found is displayed in parenthesis next to each field. Some of these commands may not be visible if there are no differences and you selected Hide Empty Forensic Analysis on the Deltek Options dialog box (User Interface).

Field Description
Projects This displays details of the projects being analyzed. A blue equals sign next to the data () means that the value is the same as the base project to which it is being compared.
Duplicate Ids This check displays duplicate activity IDs when you create a forensic analysis using activity IDs. That is, when you select Ignore Subproject Structure (Compare using Activity IDs) on the Forensic Analysis Wizard screen.

This option is available when you import Primavera P6 XER projects as a single project.

Field Description
Activities This check looks for activities that have been removed from one of the projects/scenarios.
Relationships This check looks for relationships that have been modified. The data comes from the most recent snapshot because there is a possibility that the activity is critical in the base project but not in the most recent snapshot.
When you select this option, the following columns display in the grid:
  • Predecessor ID: This column displays the predecessor ID.
  • Predecessor: This column displays the predecessor description.
  • Predecessor Critical: Use this to verify whether relationship changes will impact the critical path.This column lets you know whether the predecessor is on the critical path. True indicates that it is and False indicates that it is not.
  • Successor ID: This column displays the successor ID.
  • Successor: This column displays the successor description.
  • Successor Critical: Use this to verify whether relationship changes will impact the critical path. This column lets you know whether the successor is on the critical path. True indicates that it is and False indicates that it is not.
Resources This check looks for resource assignments that have been modified. Acumen uses remaining units for comparison.
Calendars This check integrates multiple versions of a schedule, identifying changes to the calendar definition. This includes changes to standard working/non-working time as well as changes to exceptions (for example, holidays). In addition, it can interrogate changes to calendar assignments on activities.
Leads/Lags This check allows you to compare relationship leads and lags separately from relationship types. It displays relationships that have lead/lag differences. When you select this option, the grid displays the following columns:
  • Predecessor ID
  • Predecessor
  • Successor ID
  • Successor
  • [1st project] Relationship Type
  • [2nd project] Relationship Type
  • [1st project] Lead/Lag
  • [2nd project] Lead/Lag

Use the Publish menu option to create a Forensic Analysis Report with these results.

General / Inputs / Outputs

These groups list results of the forensic comparison. The number of variances found is displayed in parenthesis next to each field. The fields that have no variances do not display if you select Hide Empty Forensic Analysis on the Deltek Options dialog box (User Interface).

SmartGantt

Create SmartGantt Filter Click to create a SmartGantt filter based on the current forensic analysis.

Publish

Field Description
Publish
  • Publish Current Report publishes all forensic checks to an MS Excel file, each on a separate tab.
  • Publish Current Analysis publishes only the current forensic check to an MS Excel file.
