Workflows

This area of the Deltek PM Compass hierarchy controls the entire Workflows panel in PM Compass.

Disabling it also disables all of the applications found in Workflows, such as Change Request, To-do, and Work Authorization.

When you enable it, all of its children are also enabled by default. You can, however, define the permissions for each workflow on the Workflows menu individually.

In addition, some of the parents are not really securable options. PPM Administrator only uses them to group children. For example, the Links menu in the Project Form View is only used to group the securable options on the Links tab, and does not allow you to disable the tab. Similarly, Reports > Report Categories is used to group various categories, and does not refer to a securable option. Thus, selecting either Enabled or Disabled does not have any effect.

When you create a special group called PMC_CHANGEMGT_ADMIN, any user added to this group can edit data in the workflow form or in the Change Details view as if they were an assignee as long as the progress status for the workflow form is In Review or the workflow has not yet been started and they have rights to access the project.

Users in this group can only edit data; they cannot advance the workflow.

The following options can be found within the Workflows menu:

Change Management Enabling this option allows users and group members assigned this role to use the change management items.
Explain Variance Enabling this option allows users and group members assigned this role to use the Explanation of Variance workflow.
Risk Enabling this option allows users and group members assigned this role to use the Risk workflow to enter or update risk details for the project.
To-Do Enabling this option allows users and group members assigned this role to use the To-Do workflow to add or update details and progess of To-Do tasks.
Work Authorization Enabling this option allows users and group members assigned this role to use the Work Authorization workflow to add or update a work authorization and corresponding workflow.

PM Compass categorizes workflows using the List Table form. Each time you add a custom category to the List Table, that category displays in the tree view.

To add a category, click Administration > List Table and then select Workflow Category.

When you add a new category to the List Table, the new category and four securable items become available automatically in the tree view. Each category has the following securable options:

  • New
  • Delete
  • Suspend
  • Reassign
  • Cancel

When you delete a workflow category from the List Table, PPM Administrator also removes the securable options from all roles.
