CONVERSION SUBTASK

Use this subtask to create a formula that converts units of measure from one to another. The conversion formula is used in converting the ordering or selling unit of measure to or from the unit of measure used to track the item through inventory. In this screen, the factors used in the conversion formula are identified. For example, items can be ordered by the "dozen" on a purchase order and stocked to inventory individually or by the "each." A unit of measure code for "dozen" and a code for "each" must first be established followed by the setup of applicable conversion factors.

Set up this subtask during initialization and maintain it as units of measure are added and modified.

From Units of Measure

The fields in this group box display the unit of measure from which the conversion is taking place.

Code, Description

The unit of measure code and corresponding description display for the "From" unit of measure.

To Units of Measure

The fields in this group box provide the available unit of measure codes to which the "From" unit of measure is to be converted.

Search

Enter a search string for the units of measure. Based on the string entered, the next available units of measure code and description will be scrolled to the top of the table window.

Code, Description

These fields display the current list of available units of measure codes and their descriptions in alphanumeric order.

Selected To Units of Measure

The fields in this group box display the units of measure that has been selected for a conversion. In order to deselect units of measure, highlight the rows in this table and click the Deselect button.

Code

This field displays the code for the unit of measure selected from the To Units of Measure group box.

Conv Factor

Enter the conversion factor that will indicate how to go "From" a unit of measure "To" a unit of measure. The conversion factor is a numeric value that will either be multiplied or divided by the "From" quantity to arrive at the "To" quantity. For example, enter 12 as the conversion factor when converting from "Dozen" to "Each." Conversion factor works in combination with the Direction field, which is either "M" (Multiply) or "D" (Divide). This field is required.

Direction

Enter the direction that will indicate how to go from the "From" unit of measure to the "To" a unit of measure. The direction refers to a code indicating whether to "M" (Multiply) or "D" (Divide). This field is required. Costpoint will default to "M" (Multiply) if no other direction is entered. For example, enter "M" as the direction code when converting from "Dozen" to "Each."

Round Type

Enter the rounding type that will aid in the conversion process. The rounding type is a code indicating the system-defined rounding methods. The possible rounding types that are available are "N" (Normal rounding rules) for no rounding at all; round "U" (Up) for raising to the next higher whole number; or round "D" (Down) for lowering to the previous whole number. This field is required. Costpoint will default to "N" (Normal) if no other round type is entered.
