MANAGE PROVISIONAL PARTS

Use this screen to create and maintain information about provisional parts. Provisional parts are parts that are not yet (and might never be) defined as standard parts in Product Definition, and are used for planning purposes only. Establishing provisional parts on this screen is similar to creating standard parts in Product Definition; however, provisional part information is stored in a separate table.

You can use provisional parts in proposals, Proposal Bills of Material (PBOMs), unreleased Engineering Bills of Material (EBOMs), Requests for Quotes (RFQs), and vendor quotes. Before you can use a provisional part in any other screen, you must first use the Convert Provisional Parts to Standard Parts screen to convert it to a standard part.

This screen contains three tabs:

Location

Identification

Use the Identification block to enter provisional part identification, revisions, and the provisional part description. You must enter data in the block before you can enter any additional part information. Additional maintenance of this screen is required only when you modify information related to the part.

Provisional Part ID

Use this field to enter a part ID that is used throughout the system as the main identifier for the part. If you enter an existing provisional part ID and attempt to save the record, and the Allow Multiple Revisions for Each Item check box is selected in the Corporate Settings block on the Configure Product Definition Settings screen, the application displays an error message indicating that the provisional part ID already exists.

Rev

Use this field to track multiple modifications or revision levels for each part. If the Allow Multiple Revisions For Each Item check box is selected in the Corporate Settings block on the Configure Product Definition Settings screen, you can store multiple revisions of the same part in the database at the same time. Costpoint treats each revision as a separate part. If the Allow Multiple Revisions For Each Item check box is not selected, only the last revision of the part is stored.

If multiple revisions are allowed, the last revision assigned to the part displays by default. Costpoint uses the method selected in the Corporate Settings block on the Configure Product Definition Settings screen to determine the last revision.

Desc

Enter a description for the provisional part.
